Are We Forgetting God?
The holidays are over . . . Now itβs time to get back to normal. Take down the decorations, pay the credit card bills, check out our new gifts, put the bags of ripped wrapping paper in the garbage, finish up the eggnog, watch someone elseβs team in the NFL playoffs, and catch up on our rest by skipping church to sleep in Sunday . . . Wait! What was that last one?
Why Do We Celebrate Christmas On The 25th Of December
βAll the leaves are brown, and the sky is grey. Iβve been for a walk, on a winterβs day.β
Some of you remember that line from The Mamas and the Papas song. It describes how it feels right now - grey, cold, dark, dingy....winter. As each day becomes shorter, and darker, and colder, we can feel the impending sludge of winter coming down upon us. Depressed yet??
For All He's Done For You...
Many years ago when I was a lot younger, I was visiting my Mom and Dad. As I was leaving, my Dad asked if I could help him move a couch sometime. I said I would be glad to when I wasnβt so busy. He was fine with that, but as I walked out the driveway, a neighbor came up to me and said, βWith all that heβs has done for you, I canβt believe you didnβt jump at the chance to help him. Iβm ashamed of you. I wish I still had my Dad alive to help now.β

sometimes meet with her teacher. They would sit us down in little desks made for children, and they would sit in the βteacherβs chair.β
Do You Believe In Miracles?
I have seen miracles happen in many lives. I have seen prayers answered, people healed, lives changed, and in ways that cannot be explained by the medical or scientific world. I believe in miracles happening in our world today! I have also prayed for miracles, and they donβt always happen.
From the Pastor's Desk - Summer 2015
I have been reading about cars that will drive themselves, solar powered houses, instant choice entertainment, cures for incurable diseases, smart homes, and all the other amazing promises of the near future. They are even working on a tube you can get in and be transported at 700 miles an hour to your destination. It sounds fantastic. In light of all the changes I have seen in my short life, it seems very possible. I hope to live to see it.
A Quiet Countdown
At the end of February I turned 58 years old. At the end of June, I will have been a pastor at the Pendleton Church for 25 years. There comes a point in life when we realize we have more yesterdays than we will have tomorrows. I am at that point in life as your Pastor and as a person. When I lived on the side of life where I expected to have more tomorrows than yesterdays, I looked at the future as an adventure with years to come. Now I can see the end of the journey.
Am I forgetting something?
May is a month to catch up to life. Winter is finally gone, even the spring rains calm down and we can get to that βto doβ list. May is a busy month. So much to do β am I forgetting something? Letβs see, work, school, chores, barbeques, baseball, the waterfront, walks on the bike trailβ¦somethingβs missing.
