Am I forgetting something?

Am I forgetting something?

May is a month to catch up to life. Winter is finally gone, even the spring rains calm down and we can get to that “to do” list. Clean up the yard, fill in the holes, trim the bushes and trees, weed the gardens, plant flowers, get some mulch, clean off the patio, put out the furniture and statues, clean out the garage, work on fixing all the broken stuff, get a construction project done, sort through the clothes and get rid of the old winter ones, put some in storage, get out the summer clothes, send some to the cleaners, clean the carpets, clean the floors, go through the cupboards, the freezer and the fridge, clean the car inside and out, power wash the siding and the deck, fertilize the grass and gardens, weed control, clean up the old leaves, plant a tree or two, get out the grill and clean it up, put away the Christmas lights, maintenance on the lawn mower, put away the snow shovels, get out the garden tools, put away the dog stuff, wash all the windows, fill the bird feeders, change the oil on the car, pay the bills, pay the taxes, seal the driveway …then go to the cottage and do it again…then go to my daughter’s, and do it again.

May is a busy month. So much to do – am I forgetting something? Let’s see, work, school, chores, barbeques, baseball, the waterfront, walks on the bike trail…something’s missing.

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10

It’s so easy to get out of the habit of practicing our faith, going to church and growing closer to God. Especially in May. So much to do, so many places to go. In the winter, if there isn’t a storm, people attend church. They spend time with God. Then May comes. People don’t run away from God or turn away from God, they simply get in a different habit. A habit that neglects our faith. Hebrews 10 tells us God is coming. Life is short, eternal life is long. It’s easy to get too caught up in the concerns of this world and forget to prepare for the Day we will meet our God.

Before we know it, it will be summer… barbeques, parties, Fourth of July, graduations, vacations, cottages, parades, fireworks, weddings, picnics, ball games, boat rides. Am I forgetting something?
