The Magic of Shoebox Sunday
There is a buzz about the building, unlike any other day. Excitement is in the air as the holiday season is soon about to kick off with the arrival of Advent, and Santa Claus in the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade. Trailers line the front of the church parking lot. The church freezer is stuffed with turkeys for our meal ministries, and the altar is shimmering with a sea of colorfully wrapped shoeboxes.
We Are Royalty
Do we identify with being highly valued for reasons beyond the masquerade party? Knowing and experiencing our worth is not always easy. God asks us to do our part and live a faithful life. We can be saved, but live like spiritual paupers.
Choir Angels
Near the end of the worship service, she moved slightly toward me. I glanced down and to my left. She pointed to what she had written on the back of the Friendship Card from her bulletin. As my eyes met hers, I gave a slight nod and a half-smile. It had to do with the day the choir left the church.
God Always Provides
The suggestion sent a shiver down my spine. “We should organize a live orchestra to accompany our Christmas Cantata instead of singing to a CD,” said our piano accompanist. Live orchestra? In Pendleton? Who would play in it? And how would I conduct it while directing the choir?
An Act Of Kindness
Working in a church bookstore is not the kind of ministry where one would expect to experience those heartwarming and rewarding moments you would by feeding the hungry or teaching Sunday school. Occasionally, something interesting would happen.
Making A Difference In The World
God finds faithful people He can trust to serve. You and I can experience these things in this life, to some measure, if we will allow Christ to work through us.

An Unexpected Blessing
Upon reaching our destination, the scene was familiar, so setting up and beginning the distribution went very routinely. What followed was not. The emotions I began to feel hit hard and fast.
