What is Our Worth?

The Advent season is a time when we prepare for the coming of Christ, in the world and in our hearts. For believers, it is a time of reflection, expectation, anticipation, and celebration. Even as we celebrate the birth of Jesus in a humble stable in Bethlehem, we also anticipate the second coming of Christ, in hope for the establishment of God’s kingdom. There is a longing for, and need of, forgiveness, salvation, and a new beginning for the world; a restoration of the relationship between humanity and our Creator.

From the time sin entered into the world in the Garden of Eden until the arrival of Jesus, the world did not stop pining to be reconciled to God. The author of the hymn O Holy Night expresses so beautifully what it means for humanity to long for the awaited Christ child, the Messiah.

O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
’Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth.

The last line exuberantly says, “’Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth.” The yearning soul comes to know its worth, as a beloved child of God, when Jesus Christ is accepted into one’s heart and life. Jesus Christ came in love, as Savior and Redeemer, so that we may have a restored relationship with God. We become part of God’s family. We experience the joy of being accepted and loved, and get a foretaste of God’s kingdom in our lives.

From now through Christmas, we have a variety of events and worship services to celebrate the message of Jesus Christ. We would like to invite you to join us as we share the hope and joy of this holy season of Advent.
