Holy Remembering - Holy Week … Holy
In your travels locally or further away, you have probably noticed places where people leave stones or pictures, types of memorabilia. If you wander by rivers or bodies of water where there are stones nearby, you might find cairns. These are artistic piles of rocks that simply are a visual reminder of our presence in that place. In driving, we might see flowers and crosses; these are typically signs and symbols that someone died, here, in this space, and likely tragically.
Some carry stones and lay them down as a symbolic way of laying down burdens, weighty things of life, spirit, or soul. When my husband and I, separately and together, have been to the Holy Land, we have taken stones from one of our lakes and dropped them in the Sea of Galilee, picking up stones from the beach there to replace the ones we left behind.
Remembering is important to us - and some are better at this than others. My husband remembers details of houses we’ve lived in, people’s names from 25 years ago that I don’t remember. I remember people and experiences that sometimes he doesn’t remember. Or, the great debate - we don’t remember them the same way. I’m sure no one can relate to that.
Holy Week 2022 will be here in a matter of days. It is the greatest week of remembering in our Christian year, even though all that God has given us warrants remembering or knowing where to rediscover truths and support. I invite you to come and remember with us, as part of our worshiping community - whether you are here every week, once or twice a year, or you’ve never been here.
I invite you to:
Palm Sunday
Saturday, April 9 at 5:00 PM
Sunday, April 10 at 9:00 & 11:00 AM
Streamed live Sunday at 9:00 AM
Palm (or Passion) Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week. Palm branches are waved exalting Jesus, as we remember His triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
Maundy Thursday
Thursday, April 14 at 7:00 PM
We will gather around tables in the sanctuary to share in the story of the disciples gathered in the upper room where Jesus served them, cared for and about them, and prepared to leave them. We will share in Holy Communion, serving one another at the same table, the holy table of gathered people seeking Jesus.
Good Friday
Friday, April 15 at 8:00 PM, in-person and live streamed
People often don’t see the good in Good Friday. One of my questions is whether we can really understand the resurrection of Jesus if we don’t have a sense of the crucifixion. I invite you to come listen as we remember together how the disciples were called to follow Jesus, what they saw and how they experienced the journey to the cross, and also the brokenness of watching their beloved friend in the man Jesus and beloved Savior Jesus be treated with cruelty we cannot really understand.
Easter Services
Saturday, April 16 at 5:00 PM
Sunday, April 17 at 9:00 & 11:00 AM
Streamed live Sunday at 9:00 AM
Christ is Risen, He is risen indeed. Let the flowers bloom, and the colors show - life in Christ is victorious over death, now and forever.
With love, together on the Way,
Pastor Cathy Stengel
