Follow In His Footsteps

Each one of us is called to strive to be more like Christ and follow in His footsteps. Sometimes it is hard to know just how to go about what is the right path to follow. I remember getting ready to go somewhere with my dad after a big snowstorm when I was little. My dad opened the side door, and the snow was so high, it seemed unclimbable; it was too deep. “Just follow my footsteps,” my dad said, and he made steps to the car. I stepped into each one, sometimes slowly, and carefully followed each one.

Jesus has shown us the way, just like my dad. Jesus has left His footprints in the world for us to follow. If we follow in His footsteps, we know we are going the right way. We know what is right and wrong, because we know to be like Jesus is the right path. We also know that when it seems like it is too much, He carries us. He is always there.

We are called to walk with justice and kindness and to walk humbly with our God. We are called to show love and mercy to all, spend time with sinners, help the sick, feed the hungry, and listen to those who need help. When we follow the path Jesus set for us, we know we are always doing the right thing. In our sermon series, The Tie that Binds, we have been shown that we are all bound together and walk the path together.

God has formed us with His hands and is constantly working on us. He has woven us together so that if one of us hurts, we all hurt. We have been shown how to pour our love out to others and not be so quick to judge. God’s grace is poured into each one of us. We have been lifted so that one of us is not better than another.

It sometimes becomes too easy to pick out changes we don’t like or the ways other people do things we don’t like. We are quick to criticize, but when we walk in the footsteps of Christ, realizing that He is the tie that binds us together in love, sometimes we just need to stop for a moment and begin again slowly, carefully putting grace and love first.

We are traveling this path together, and we are here for each other. If you are in need of prayer, in need of someone to listen, if you need to see a smiling face or to work something out, let us know. You can call the church office or email us. We don’t know if you don’t ask.

I wish you many blessings and peace,
Jennifer Stamm
