Join Us in Serving Others This December

As you probably remember, fall and early winter are our busiest times of year. You will see evidence of this through the various outreach programs and ministries that traditionally take place at this time of year. We will do our best to keep everyone informed about all the ways you can help and get involved with our church family, and support these projects. Operation Christmas Child, Angel Tree, collection for Thanksgiving baskets, and others supporting veterans and families will begin soon. If you're interested in getting involved and helping with these endeavors, please let us know! We would love to have your help! Contact DJ Mahar for more information and where you might like to get involved!

Thursday Night Dinner News

Thursdays | 5:00 PM | First UMC, 8210 Buffalo Ave., Niagara Falls

Contact: DJ Mahar

What a year it has been! And here we find ourselves in that beautiful holiday season once more! We love to share the message of hope and love found in the story of the birth of our Savior with all of our guests on Thursday nights. We also love to prepare a wonderful holiday dinner to celebrate that event. If you are able to, we need your help!

We need hams, boxed scalloped potatoes, frozen peas, cans of crushed pineapple, eggs, sugar, and butter to be able to share this meal with our many friends! We will be serving this holiday dinner on Thursday, December 18, so we would need to have any donations in by Sunday, December 14.

We also welcome anyone interested in joining us to prepare and/or serve this meal, just contact DJ Mahar for more details!

On behalf of all of us connected with the Thursday Night Dinner, we would like to thank you all for your continued support and generosity as we continue to serve God by serving the folks in this Niagara Falls community. I know that whenever we have needed items, this congregation comes through with either those items or the funds to be able to get them, and more! Thank you so very much, and Merry Christmas!

Feeding Hope

Next Meal: Wednesday, December 10

Contact: Sandy Houck

Our warm, hearty meals are so appreciated by the folks we feed downtown Buffalo with Friends Feeding Friends. Last month we also provided a pan of our meal to Salvation Army Code Blue, Lockport.

December will be our annual Christmas meal - and, yes, it’s meatloaf.  It’s our tradition. We are looking for donations of ground beef, boxes of stuffing mix (any flavor), boxes of brownie mix, instant mashed potatoes, and any canned veggies.

We will start preparing in our church kitchen at 2:00. Also, we will leave church at 6:00 PM (note new time). Anyone is welcome to lend a hand preparing meal at church or going downtown Buffalo to hand out meals.

Warm Blanket Collection

We will be collecting new or gently used blankets to give to folks we serve meals to with Feeding Hope. What better way to warm a heart than with a warm meal and a warm blanket? Please label and drop off in Mission Central.

Family Promise of WNY

A homeless shelter for families

Once again, we delivered our monthly two bags of groceries to homeless families who are staying at Family Promise and families staying together. Often, families are separated because of a lack of space to house a whole family, or they are separated to stay with relatives. At Family Promise, they are kept together and have housing together when they leave.

We donate two bags of groceries monthly ($35 each). They send a list close to our sign-up date, and items are picked up and taken to this facility. This is just one little part of giving families hope for their future. If you’d like to contribute, please donate financially to Feeding Hope, and funds will be put toward these two monthly bags.

Giving the Gift of Sight

The Pendleton Lions participate in the Lions eyeglass recycling program. Your old glasses can be refurbished and given to someone in desperate need of sight. Our recycled glasses go to low-income areas and to countries such as Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, and Nicaragua. If you have glasses you would like to donate, please put them in the box in Mission Central.

Intergenerational Angel Wings

Saturday, December 13 | 12:00-3:00 PM | Fellowship Hall

Contact: Becky Heideman

Intergenerational Angel Wings will be hosting a baby shower for Haven of Hope at our next meeting. If you would like to donate baby items, please place them on the Mission Central shelving.

Before the meeting, we’ll also be wrapping gifts for the veteran family that Angel Wings has adopted for the holiday season. All are welcome to join us and help wrap!
