Our church’s response to the Coronavirus crisis

This post has an update here

We are deeply concerned about the physical, emotional, and spiritual health of our people. We ask everyone to pray for our church, our community, and our nation.

As a faith community, we are following the guidelines the government has established for organizations like ours. We are using sanitizers, making sanitizing lotions available, and encouraging reasonable social distancing. We realize this is a concern that will have moving margins, and we will respond as we are encouraged. At this time, none of our gatherings exceed the size our governor has asked us to cancel. We rarely have half of the number of people he has banned together in our church. However, we are also arranging our furnishings and activities to make more space and encourage healthy interactions.

We have discontinued for now the practice of shaking hands, encouraged people to take communion in one form if they choose, and we are washing and sanitizing wherever we can.

We also recognize that people have emotional and spiritual needs that are met by the church. So long as the outbreaks of the virus appear to be geographically distanced from us, we will offer our basic activities. We do encourage at-risk people to remain at home, and we will provide the services through the internet. If you feel comfortable gathering at church, our activities are available at this time.

We do not know what the future will be. People have concerns about their jobs and their health. Some have asked about what effect it will have on the finances and life of the church. We don’t know the future, but we know who holds it.

Again, pray for our church and all our world. We know that this will pass and God will keep us in his love from now and into eternity. We also know that God would want us to be prudent stewards of his church family as we struggle together.
