Easter 2021 - Why Should I
"You're not the boss of me!" That's what our younger children would say if they were left in the care of one of their older siblings or an older cousin. They were wrong... but they sure wanted to express their opinions! Have you ever realized that you aren't the boss of anyone? We certainly manage our children's lives when they are little, and then realize as they stretch into later teen and young adult lives... that we are not the boss of them. The Bible is full of instructions, laws, rules. However... as much as God wants us to let Him be in charge of our lives - God does not boss us... unless we agree to it. One author writes the following:
"Rabbi," a fellow Jew asked Jesus, "which commandment in the law is the greatest?" With 613 commandments, it was a favorite practice among lovers of Torah to reduce the Law to its essence. The prophet Micah reduced it down to three: "Do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God." Amos boiled it down to one: "Seek me and live."
Jesus settles right in the middle with two: "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments, hang all the law and the prophets."
Easter is one of those history changing, earth shaking, hopeful, life giving, life changing realities. It verifies God's love for us, God's willingness to reach across the heavens and earth... to you and to me. We are loved, can't change it, lose it, make it go away... so here's the Easter hope... accept it, claim it... and let's be about changing the world with it.
Resurrection blessings to you!
