Are you going on any adventures this month?

We’ve got our packs…
We’ve got our load…
We’re ready now
To hit the road…
Be with us, God…
Around the bend…
Help us to make..
Strangers, friends...
Amen

Welcome to August, everyone! Are you going on any adventures this month? Maybe you’ll find your way across the waves to VBS where there will be splishing and splashing through the Bible with lots of wiggly children! Maybe you’ll be traveling in your mind with the help of travel shows or social media pages.

When our children were growing up, we would often go camping sometime in August – after VBS and August birthdays and anniversary celebrations (often during VBS, haha). We ventured to Bar Harbor and other beautiful places – smelled like campfires and salty sea air.

The prayer above is a prayer from our August worship series called Quest – about traveling – spiritually and physically. We will venture with God’s people as they cross the wilderness – the highs and the lows. The prayer is one that is to repeat after me with children – I love it in my grown-up mind. Isn’t every day a journey – and whether we are only at home, traveling for business or school, or off on a family adventure – may our prayer be like the one above.

We each have all the things we carry – packs and loads – and each day we hit the road of living another day. My prayer for myself and for you, my friends, is indeed: be with us, God, around all the bends, up and down the hills – and may we find ways to make strangers friends, and may we draw closer to you, O Lord Jesus, who called us friends. Amen.
